This course cultivates in students the ability to establish domain and area-based collaborations across borders in an increasingly globalized society. This course is designed to foster global citizens who can overcome diverse domestic and international barriers and flourish in an increasingly pluralistic and complex global society. The course of study fundamentally comprises small-group seminars, three programs in varied fields and regions, and field studies in Japan and abroad. Students are invited to join our transborder learning community, which aims to enable learners to collaborate with others from a micro one-to-one level to a macro global scale.
This program highlights theories of language and communication. Students learn about the fundamental concepts of linguistics and communication frameworks and simultaneously take advanced courses focusing on specific languages and regions of Europe, America, and Asia. The program also incorporates courses related to the undergraduate Japanese language teacher training certification.
The emphasis of this program is vested in regional cultures, using cross-cultural perspectives to explore ways of life and investigate the discrete aspects of culture in contemporary societies.
The comprehensive culture program is based on courses that discuss culture from diverse standpoints: environmental, popular, exchange, and cross-border. In addition, students study developmental subjects that examine the nature of society and culture in various regions of Europe, America, and Asia. Courses on media, a topic inseparable from culture, also form an important part of this program.
This program aims to make students think critically about global society by reading literature, analyzing reference materials, and conducting research. The global society program uses the lens of different social science disciplines to probe contemporary global society. Students study international relations, world economy, and cultural anthropology along with the foundations of social science and take parallel courses in economics and political science. Further, students learn about the politics, economics, and societies of varied regions of Europe, America, and Asia.
