Academic Goals of the Humanities and Social Sciences Program in the Graduate School of Integrated Arts and Sciences

The aim of our research program is to promote the development of highly specialized professionals who will succeed in contributing to their communities. From issues of environment and bioethics to our advanced information society, it is important to have specialized knowledge while thinking flexibly beyond traditional frameworks. Our society is in need of such human resources.

Thorough Personalised Instruction

The average enrollment per year is about eight students. Small class sizes allow for greater focus on education. Students receive direct, personalized guidance from faculty supervisors, especially in the Special Research course in preparation for the graduation thesis. There are also opportunities to collaborate with other faculty members to further expand and deepen one's research.

Broader Horizons

Expand your knowledge beyond your area of study by interacting with fellow students from various backgrounds, including working professionals and foreign exchange students. The experience you gain will become the foundation of your success in society beyond your graduate studies.

Suitable for Employed Candidates

For candidates who are employed, courses may be offered at night or weekends. Course schedules can be discussed and customized at the start of the academic year. If you are unable to fully commit to research due to employment, there are also options for extended enrollment.

Extended Enrollment Program

In the Humanities and Social Sciences Program in the Graduate School of Integrated Arts and Sciences, we have a system in place for students who are unable to enroll in the standard two-year graduate program for reasons such as employment or difficulty in meeting the financial obligations of the two-year program. Based on your circumstances, you may be eligible for extended enrollment, which can be anywhere between 2.5 years to 4 years (half-year increments).
