Pedagogic Phonetics and English Phonology

Sean is from Melbourne, Australia. His current research focus is in the area of pedagogic phonetics and English phonology, especially with regards to suprasegmentals. He is also interested in non-native speaker (NNS) English language use, and issues related to English as a lingua franca.

 

 

主な授業題目と内容紹介

専門英語(EPIC2A/B):English Program for International Communication(プラットフォーム科目)
EPIC is a one-semester intensive English program for upper-intermediate and advanced EFL students. Limited to 24 motivated students, selection is based on a speaking and writing test. The program includes six courses—four skills-based and two applied communication—covering language knowledge and communication. Extensive Reading (ER) and self-access learning encourage autonomy. Students earning a B or higher and B2.1 proficiency (CEFR-J) receive a Kochi University certificate with a CEFR Global Scale ranking.
英語音声学: English Phonetics/Phonology(専門選択科目)
This English Phonetics course covers pronunciation, focusing on the English sound system, connected speech, stress, rhythm, prominence, and intonation. It explores pronunciation, morphology, and spelling while comparing North American and British English. Practical activities enhance learning, incorporating techniques and technology. The course also examines accents, intelligibility, and comprehensibility. Assessments include mid-term and final tests. By the end, students will improve phonetic awareness.
